Reverse-Engineering Technical Report

Reverse-engineering proposal analyzing a consumer fan for redesign

Overview

A team reverse-engineering proposal that selects a Living Solutions consumer fan as the subject of analysis and justifies why it merits engineering teardown. The document describes the product's function and components, identifies its real-world design flaws, and proposes concrete improvements for each. It was prepared by a five-person student team for an engineering design course.

Key Achievements

Approach

The team chose a product with a clear engineering function, more than five components, and at least two materials so it would support a meaningful teardown. They described the product's construction and operation, catalogued observed flaws from a user perspective, and mapped each flaw to a targeted design improvement in a side-by-side table to motivate the redesign.

The deliverable is a written reverse-engineering proposal that justifies the product selection and lays out four flaw-and-improvement pairs; see docs/Reverse Engineering - Proposal.docx.
